Trans Atlantic Gem Sales (TAGS) will expand its operations into South Africa with the opening of a new diamond tender house in Johannesburg.
Set to launch in May, the facility will provide a structured sales channel for local diamond producers and suppliers, connecting them with TAGS’ global customer network.
New Tender Facilities
The Johannesburg location will include 13 viewing rooms and a sorting facility, enabling diamond producers to market their goods through a formalised process. TAGS stated that the new facility will offer local suppliers an additional sales option.
In a statement, the company said: “We firmly believe that opening this operation in South Africa is a natural progression for TAGS and represents a significant value proposition for local producers and suppliers.”
TAGS’ Existing Operations
TAGS launched its first tender house in Dubai eight years ago and has since expanded into Africa. For the past two years, it has conducted tenders in Angola on behalf of Sodiam and the Angolan government. The new South African facility is part of the company’s broader expansion in diamond trading markets.
Industry Implications
The addition of a tender house in Johannesburg provides South African diamond producers with an alternative sales platform. This could increase competition in the market and provide greater price transparency. For jewellers, the expansion may influence sourcing options and supply dynamics. TAGS’ presence in Dubai, Angola, and now South Africa reflects ongoing changes in the global diamond trade and the evolving role of tender sales in distribution.
